From 6
through 14 April 1999, Chinese Prime Minister Zhu Rongji is paying a
controversial visit to the United States and Canada.
The visit comes
at a time of heightened human rights repression in China, reports of
theft of nuclear secrets from Los Alamos, increased missile threats
against Taiwan, and a total lack of willingness by the Chinese to come
to an accommodation with the Dalai Lama.

a joint rally by the Tibetan, Taiwanese, and human
rights communities, on Thursday, April 8th 1999 in Lafayette
Park, in front of the White House.
